{"id":938,"date":"2022-01-12T05:37:34","date_gmt":"2022-01-12T05:37:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devsnews.com\/wp\/visapass\/?page_id=938"},"modified":"2024-03-02T22:14:34","modified_gmt":"2024-03-02T15:14:34","slug":"workpermit","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/pamconsulting.ca\/?page_id=938","title":{"rendered":"Work Permit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/pamconsulting.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/services-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>WORK PERMIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/services\/work-canada\/permit\/temporary\/eligibility.html\">Work permit: Who can apply &#8211; Canada.ca<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In Canada, there are\u00a0<strong>two main types of work permits<\/strong>\u00a0for foreign workers:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<li><strong>Employer-Specific Work Permit<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">This type of work permit allows you to work in Canada based on specific conditions outlined in your work permit. These conditions include:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<li>The name of the specific employer you can work for.<\/li>\n<li>The duration of your work permit.<\/li>\n<li>The location where you can work (if applicable).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Before applying for an employer-specific work permit, your employer must provide you with one of the following:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<li>A copy of a\u00a0<strong>Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>An\u00a0<strong>offer of employment number<\/strong>(for LMIA-exempt workers). To obtain this number, your employer must use the\u00a0<strong>Employer Portal<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If your employer doesn\u2019t need to use the Employer Portal, they should give you a copy of the employment contract.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol style=\"text-align: center;\" start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Open Work Permit<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>An open work permit allows you to work for\u00a0<strong>any employer<\/strong>in Canada, except for those listed as ineligible (such as employers who have failed to comply with conditions or regularly offer certain services).<\/li>\n<li>You can obtain an open work permit in specific situations.<\/li>\n<li>Some jobs may require a\u00a0<strong>medical exam<\/strong>, and if you want to avoid medical conditions on your open work permit, you can get a medical exam from a panel physician.<\/li>\n<li>If you wish to bring your family with you, your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children may be able to work, study, or live with you while you work in Canada.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In Canada, international students have several options for work permits. Let\u2019s explore them:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<li><strong>Working on Campus<\/strong>: While studying, international students with a valid study permit can work on campus. They are allowed to work for up to\u00a0<strong>20 hours per week<\/strong>during the academic session and full-time during scheduled breaks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Working off Campus<\/strong>: Study permit holders may be eligible to work off campus without a separate work permit as soon as they begin their studies in Canada. Eligible students can work for any eligible Canadian employer for up to\u00a0<strong>20 hours a week<\/strong>while classes are in session. Changes to off-campus work hours may allow students to work more than 20 hours per week under a temporary public policy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Co-Op Students<\/strong>: International students enrolled in programs that require work placements (such as co-op or internships) can apply for a work permit. To qualify, they need a valid study permit and a letter from their school confirming the work placement requirement. The co-op placement or internship should total\u00a0<strong>50% or less<\/strong>of their study program.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) validity is determined by several factors:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<li>A) For master\u2019s degree programs:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<li>Graduates from programs less than 2 years may be eligible for a 3-year PGWP starting February 15, 2024.<\/li>\n<li>Ineligibility for PGWP if the program is less than 8 months.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<li>B) For all other programs:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<li>Ineligibility for PGWP if the program is less than 8 months.<\/li>\n<li>Eligibility for a PGWP valid for the same length as the study program if it&#8217;s at least 8 months but less than 2 years.<\/li>\n<li>Eligibility for a 3-year PGWP for programs lasting 2 years or more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<li>C) If completing multiple programs:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<li>PGWP length may combine the durations of each program if they are at least 8 months long and meet eligibility criteria.<\/li>\n<li>Ineligibility for a PGWP if one was already received after completing an earlier program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<li>D) Passport expiry:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: center;\">PGWP validity is until the passport&#8217;s expiry date.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: center;\">Extension of the passport may be necessary to obtain full PGWP validity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WORK PERMIT Work permit: Who can apply &#8211; Canada.ca In Canada, there are\u00a0two main types of work permits\u00a0for foreign workers: Employer-Specific Work Permit: This type of work permit allows you to work in Canada based on specific conditions outlined in your work permit.
